Let me tell you about our sea turtle holiday experience. Sea turtles were something we had only seen on TV wildlife programmes. However, during one of our holidays, staying on the west coast of Barbados, we were lucky enough to have a truly magnificent and unforgettable experience. Around 7.45 one evening we had just taken our seats on the decking outside one of the beachfront restaurants in Holetown, when we spotted a large dark brown shape, dimly illuminated by the restaurant’s lights, on the shoreline nearby. We thought at first that it might be a large crab or a ray swimming in the shallows. As it came closer, much to our joy and amazement, this soon revealed itself to be a hawksbill sea turtle. Our Barbados holiday concierge services are free of charge when you book your accommodation with us. Paradise Rentals offers you so much more than just great places to stay, we are your ‘insider guide’ to Barbados. We use our local knowledge and contacts to make your holiday the very best it can be. We have 100s of satisfied customers who can testify to just how much value we can add. This is a recent quote from happy guests who stayed at Mahogany Villa :
“……we would like to thank you personally along with the house manager, driver and the house staff for their care and attention. You and they were outstanding in the care given to us, as visitors. It almost seems reasonable to thank you for asking the several monkey families to pop down and see us most mornings!! We just loved everything about the villa and location and will return.”
Barbados Holiday Eco tours might not be the first thing you think of when you are coming on holiday. However, I am often asked about things to see and do in Barbados. Of course, there are the wonderful beaches, the fabulous dining and great nightlife. As tempting as those options are, I also think it’s great to tear yourself away from the beach just for a while and get off the beaten track to see the whole of Barbados, in all its glory. You might be surprised just what you find, especially for nature lovers, conservationists, and anyone interested in history and heritage. There’s lots going on. I highly recommend a trip to PEG Farm and Nature Reserve in the parish of St Joseph, on the East of the island – a fabulous bio dynamic farm offering holiday eco-tours for all the family – a really great day out. A really good place to eat in Barbados is Carizma on the Hill, the restaurant based at the exclusive Sugar Hill Resort in the parish of St James – on the west coast. Not only is Carizma within the fabulous grounds of Sugar Hill frequented by the well to do and famous (as well as us ordinary folk!), the view is magnificent and the menu extensive and affordable. The restaurant is open to everyone and access is easy. You will see their signs from the road.
Barbados culture and history is not always the first thing you associate with your holiday in the sun. However, you might be surprised. There are many unique things to see and do during your Barbados holiday. There truly is something for everyone, which is what makes Barbados such an ever-popular holiday destination. One of the ‘not to be missed’ attractions is St Nicholas Abbey – one of only three Jacobean Manor Houses still standing in the Americas today.

The Caribbean love affair began when I first came to Barbados on my honeymoon many years ago. Little did I know that it would be the start of two lifelong love affairs – one with the man I married and one with the island paradise in the sun.
I could tell you about the virtues of being married to Arthur but I suspect you’d rather know what brings me back to Barbados year after year, and why it will always have a special place in my heart.
When I tell you I come from Canada (aka The Great White North) you’ll know the winters are seriously long and frigid. In -20 c. temperatures and deep snow, the thought of that wonderful Bajan sunshine in January gets me through the dark November days. By December, I’m mentally packing my bag with sunglasses, sandals and sarongs and can hardly wait to leave the down coat and polar fleece behind! I know that aches and pains will disappear and the sunshine (not to mention the odd tropical cocktail) will have a therapeutic effect as soon as I step off the plane.
Caribbean catamaran cruising doesn’t get any better than this. Indulge in pure luxury, on board SEADUCED 1, a 47ft luxury catamaran. We will have towels and snorkel equipment, you just bring yourself – ready to relax and have fun.
Prepare yourself for wonderful waters, perfect for swimming, fantastic food and a great time on board. Take a look at this video and then, if you need any more convincing, read what we have to say!
Saddle up and enjoy some holiday horse riding on the wild side of Barbados! What could be better than exploring the beach on horse-back with your family and friends. Or maybe with that special someone, for a romantic wander or a gallop through the foaming white surf as it laps the shore, with the wind blowing through your hair.
You can enjoy fantastic views while on horseback, it’s a great way to see the island; maybe taking a trek down to Bath Beach and back, at a leisurely pace, perfect for the novice rider. You can experience miles of great action in the saddle with the wonderful Barbados Atlantic Ocean breeze to cool you down. Riders are likely to spot mongoose or green monkeys along the way as we trek through lush vegetation on down to Bath Beach.

There are many beautiful gardens in Barbados but Huntes Gardens really is something special. Located in the lush hills of St Joseph, just 20-30 minutes drive from Holetown. On a gentle stroll around this enchanting garden, all five senses are indulged: touch, sound, smell, sight and taste!
When you enter the garden, stand still for a moment. Close your eyes momentarily and experience everything that surrounds you. Feel the Caribbean warmth. Maybe a gentle breeze is blowing softly against your skin. Bird song calls to your ear like a gentle bell among the classical music that wafts magically though the garden. Breathe in deeply through your nose whilst catching the merest scent of tropical blooms in the air. Now, pause a moment; and then open your eyes and absorb the botanical crescendo that’s being played out by nature’s sublime orchestra. The scent, the sounds, the feel; the beauty is right there for you to explore, the rich and colourful tapestry that is a ‘garden’.
These fabulous gardens in Barbados, have been created by the horticulturalist Anthony Hunte, whose ancestors arrived on the island in the 1600s in service. Anthony spent two years turning the large natural sink hole into the beautiful garden we see today, and he opened it to the public back in 1997.
Holetown is a popular choice for a Barbados villa rental holiday. Located on the West Coast of Barbados, in the parish of St James, this is where the English sea captain, John Powell, came ashore and claimed the island for the English King James I in the 1600s. It was given the name of a natural inlet channel where ships could be off loaded and cleaned, before a new cargo would be loaded up.
Today Holetown is no longer a port but an interesting, eclectic mix of shops, bars, restaurants and hotels apartments and it’s a great place for your Barbados holiday. We have a range of villas and apartments in, or near to, Holetown; for example:
The exclusive Sugar Hill Resort is very close to Holetown, just a 5 minute drive away. Here we can offer many accommodation options for a great Barbados villa rental, such as Apartment 209C, Westholme and Orange Walk Studio.
So, let’s take a brief walk around Holetown, starting at the Chattel Village. Continue Reading

Formally settled around 1630, in the earliest days, Speightstown was the busiest port in Barbados. Nowadays, its’ historic background intermingles with modern properties and businesses, reflecting a developing country and its people. Speightstown is located in the Parish of St Peter along the north-west coast of Barbados. It is one of the three towns in Barbados (Holetown and Bridgetown being the other two.) It’s a charming, historic town with an intriguing history and characterful architecture with buildings dating back hundreds of years. Continue Reading
