Large Barbados Family Villa
5 Bedroom Villa with Private Pool and Garden
Chindwin is a large Barbados family villa, nestling next to the natural forest on the very edge of Speightstown, on the North of the West Coast, in the parish of St Peter. It’s less than a 10 minute walk from both the nearest beach and the town centre. Professionally managed and maintained, Chindwin offers a very different experience from many holiday villas. Sleeping up to 10 adults, or 8 adults and up to 6 children, the house is very much part of a charming, local Bajan community which gives our guests an almost unique opportunity to sample and enjoy a very different and authentic perspective.
It is by no means unusual to witness families of the native Green Monkeys making their way across the garden to the town (or back again!) where they plunder the fruit from local gardens on a daily basis. If you are lucky, in the evening, you may be treated to your own personal firework display as fireflies exhibit their luminescent talents at nightfall. The music of the night is courtesy of the crickets and tiny tree frogs. The humming birds, butterflies, dragonflies and much more mean that nature is very much part of Chindwin’s charm.
This family villa has an extensive master bedroom with king-size bed and en-suite shower, (not to mention the balcony from which you can look across Speightstown to the open sea beyond).
There are 3 further bedrooms with queen-size double beds.
Bedroom 5 is large, and a wonderful children’s ‘dormitory’ which can sleep either 2 adults or up to 6 children. It has 2 full sized single beds, as shown in the picture on the web site. It also has a bunk bed, of which the bottom bunk is actually a double. There is also a metal framed ‘pop-up’ bed that can be used. So, it could sleep 6 children at the most (so long as two are OK in the double). It is also perfectly adequate as a bedroom for two adults
All bedrooms have air conditioning. The bathrooms each contain a shower unit, w/c and wash hand basin. The flexible layout provides a perfect home for a 2, 3 or even 4 generation family holiday!
On the ground floor, there is an ample living, dining and fully equipped kitchen area which, combined with a 40′ x 10′ rear covered patio and separate TV/Playroom, means that space is not an issue, even at maximum occupation. With free Wi-Fi, TV and DVD player, entertainment is readily available, and housekeeping is included weekly (stays of 7 nights or more) and more can be arranged to suit your individual needs throughout your stay, for a small additional charge.
The 24′ x 12′ x 7′ deep pool allows you to cool off at will, and we provide a table tennis table to give you a reason for doing so! We also provide 2 kayaks (with car fittings) along with various surf boards, boogie boards and snorkelling equipment for your use and enjoyment during your stay.
Chindwin provides an unusually rural location on the edge of Barbados’ third largest town, Speightstown; which remains relatively unspoilt by tourism and offers a wonderful insight into ‘old’ Barbados. However, it also offers an increasingly great variety of ‘eateries’ ranging from the ubiquitous white vans offering fantastic value ‘street food’ through to the Fisherman’s Pub (you just gotta meet ‘Junior’, the boss!), Island Plates and Little Bristol Beach Bar (where you just HAVE to try the Shark Wrap) to The Lobster Pot, Jumas and a little further north is the Yacht Club at Port St Charles Marina and the famous Fish Pot Restaurant. There are many others, and every single one adds to the great Speightstown experience.
From Chindwin it is an easy walk to the beach, even with young children. It takes ten minutes to walk if you go slowly with children – a shorter time for adults. You have to cross Highway 1, but the traffic is not heavy and locals are extremely good at stopping to allow you to cross.
Chindwin is close to the local bus route and the bus service is very inexpensive. Car hire is recommended, it really helps with shopping and it means you can explore the island at your leisure. We can provide car hire quotes and make the arrangements for you.
We would love you to share the experience of being our guests at Chindwin, and look forward to welcoming you. Contact us for availability and more information about this exceptional and unique Barbados villa.

Great local vibe!
We recently had a wonderful, mid-February trip to Chindwin! I love that the house is off-the-beaten track in an actual neighborhood, so it has a great local feel. The house is spacious and the pool in the back (where we spent most of our time) feels very secluded. It's a short walk (or drive) to several different beaches and restaurants/bars. The weather every day was clear and sunny, with an occasional clearing shower. It was such a peaceful vacation in a beautiful setting. Next time I hope I will get to see the monkeys that play in the backyard around sunrise!
I loved this house. It had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The pool and outdoor area is great and where we most enjoyed hanging out. The location is great. There were not a lot of tourists which allowed us to really get a feel for the real Barbados. It is an easy walk to bars and restaurants. We saw monkeys which was delightful. At the beach we went snorkelling and got to see sea turtles. All and all a fantastic vacation and I can not wait to return!
Excellent Value! We had a group of 9 friends, and there was more than enough room. The pool was clean, and the house perfectly comfy with nice cold air conditioning in the bedrooms for those that needed it. Theres a nice grill / bbq, a good portable cooler to take your drinks to the beach, two kayaks complete with roof racks and a ping pong table. There are quiet beaches and a choice of excellent restaurants or beach bars an easy 10 minute stroll from the house, through the neighborhood which is filled with friendly people. To everyones pleasure, the monkeys visited on our last morning. If you have not visited the island before, the locals (Bajans) are typically shy and reserved but, if you initiate conversation, they will light up and love a good chat. Chindwin is not in a resort. Its in the town of Speightstown, in a quiet area, surrounded by mostly retired locals. If you want a resort style holiday then don't stay here!
If you want to feel de island vibes, and wake up to roosters / cockerels crowing...this place is for you :)
Chindwin is just great!
Chindwin was ideal for our family of eight (three generations). The children adored the pool, we all loved the garden & patio. Chindwin is conveniently located really close to Speightstown, with lots of space to park and large enough for all of us to have some privacy as required. The villa is well equipped with extra touches like a make up mirror and lots of kitchen utensils and equipment. Having two fridge freezers made things so much easier - lots of space for drinks & our food. The beds were comfy and on New Years Eve we discovered we could see five separate displays of fireworks from the balcony upstairs! There is just so much to like about Chindwin we would highly recommended staying there. All in all we had a wonderful holiday in this great villa, made even better by the knowledge that Azizi was available at the end of a phone for anything we required.
Lovely spacious house with pool
We found Chindwin to be a spacious modern house with 5 bedrooms including one on the ground floor ideal for disabled guests who couldn't manage stairs easily. It is set in lovely enclosed gardens in a quiet residential area but close to the main coast road and public transport. The swimming pool is fabulous and plenty big enough to have a proper swim in. Our party consisted of 2 grandparents plus single son , married daughter and husband plus 3 kids aged 4 - 11 and everyone enjoyed the holiday. The house is very well equipped with 2 larder fridge/freezers washing machine dishwasher full oven and hob plus microwave. Plenty of bathrooms and toilets for all of us. Very good cable TV set up with kids programs and games plus films etc. Handy for lots of local eateries and beaches. Worth hiring a car in our opinion but by no means essential. Azizi the local agent is lovely and so helpful only a phone call away if needed but not intrusive. Local roosters herald the arrival of dawn and the daily green monkey parade along the garden boundaries only to return at dusk. Some seem to prefer to stay at the resorts however as frequent visitors to Barbados this is a safe and potentially cheaper option for larger groups who want privacy and space and to eat what and when they want and experience the 'real Barbados'. Thoroughly recommended.
What a delightful change from a resort rental
We found exactly what we were looking for - a simple family holiday home. Although we were 8 adults, we could have easily accommodated a whole host of children as well since there is a very spacious kids room with 5 extremely comfortable beds/bunks. Perfect being in a neighbourhood (rather than a resort) and those neighbours were delightfully friendly. The monkey parade in the morning (through the garden) and the evening (through the tops of the palms) was wonderful - we had our own personal Green Heron by the pool every day - and hardly a mosquito to boot - certainly not the problem we expected. The house has everything you need (including a big washing machine and drying line in the garden) and and few frills which allows you torelax completely without fear of damaging anything - I can't recommend it highly enough.
Perfect house for a holiday. Simple, with comfortable beds, good kitchen, ( dodgy dishwasher, but the agents are sorting it out!) 2 large fridges (brilliant!), cool breezy living area with plenty space, good shady patiio, pool, table tennis, canoes, (or kayaks?). Good location, short walk through Speightstown, friendly locals, good shops. A wonderful opportunity to experience unspoiled Barbados. We were well looked after by the agents. A first rate holiday!
