Apes Hill Golf Club has a par-72 championship course, open since December 2009. It’s a challenging course and has recently been rated one of the world’s best. Advanced golfers will relish 7,150 yards from the Professional Tees, while the Front Tees, set at just over 5,000 yards, take complete advantage of the contours of the fairway. The holes themselves are diverse and unique. The course has undulating putting surfaces with sharp edged bunkers. There are wonderful vistas as you work your way around the course. At the 12th hole there is a view of the east coast, the par-three 16th is set within a coral stone quarry and has earned the rank of a ‘signature’ hole. Apes Hill Club has shown a stout commitment to an environmental program and are to be applauded for their efforts in providing a sanctuary for wildlife on the golf course property. At Royal Westmoreland you can reduce your handicap as you test yourself on their par 72, 7,045-yard course, which was designed by celebrated course designer, Robert Trent Jones Jnr. The course is wonderfully maintained with breath taking views amid flourishing greenery and tropical landscapes. You can line up you putt with the ocean rolling in on the not too distant shore, while enjoying the tropical Caribbean sunshine and perfect blue skies. The golf course is enjoyable and demanding. There is a combination of short holes, with a challenging back nine preceded by complicated greens on the front. You may just end up with an audience of local wild life – green monkeys! Also available at Royal Westmoreland is a Pro Shop, driving range, practice greens, Halfway House, club hire and changing rooms. Moving away from the west coast, heading south you will find Barbados Golf Club, located at Durants in the parish of Christ Church. This course has become very popular with local players as well as guests and visitors. The course was authorised by the PGA European Tour to host a PGA Seniors Tournament in 2003 and it has also been the venue for the Barbados Open on many occasions. Re-opened in the year 2000 after being reconstructed to the environmental and thoughtful design of Ron Kirby, one of the most respected and experienced golf course architects in the world. The course offers a challenging and an enjoyable game, for golfers of all levels of ability and talent.
