Horse racing in Barbados, grab your hat, we’re off !
Racing in Barbados first began when wealthy plantation owners, merchants and cavalrymen started to challenge each other on horseback in the 1700s. This then carried on until the 1800s where a track was created, on what was then the parade ground, by British army officers at Garrison Savannah; just south of Bridgetown in St Michael. The course is six furlongs in length and races are run from 5 to 11 furlongs, with horses running clock wise, which if you’re familiar with racing is unusual. I know of only one other course that runs this way which is the ancient walled Roman city of Chester in the UK.

We have 100s of satisfied customers who can testify to just how much value we can add. This is a recent quote from happy guests who stayed at one of our villas :
“This is our third time staying at Blue Moon and we would book again anytime we plan to return to Barbados. Karen and her team are super service oriented and we have never been disappointed. We have stayed with a large family group twice, including small children and this last time was “girl’s vacation” for four. The house is maintained extremely well, has everything you need to enjoy a comfortable vacation including wi-fi, maid service and the chefs that Karen recommends are amazing. We spent many mornings on the front porch with our coffee and in the afternoons enjoyed some sun on the side deck/plunge pool. The beach passes are a great perk, grocery stores, restaurants, shopping and other services are just a few minutes drive from the house. I have booked many vacation homes around the world, and Blue Moon is one of our top experiences….highly recommend it.”
Barbados Holiday Eco tours might not be the first thing you think of when you are coming on holiday. However, I am often asked about things to see and do in Barbados. Of course, there are the wonderful beaches, the fabulous dining and great nightlife. As tempting as those options are, I also think it’s great to tear yourself away from the beach just for a while and get off the beaten track to see the whole of Barbados, in all its glory. You might be surprised just what you find, especially for nature lovers, conservationists, and anyone interested in history and heritage. There’s lots going on. I highly recommend a trip to PEG Farm and Nature Reserve in the parish of St Joseph, on the East of the island – a fabulous bio dynamic farm offering holiday eco-tours for all the family – a really great day out. There are many unique things to see and do during your Barbados holiday. There truly is something for everyone, which is what makes Barbados such an ever-popular holiday destination. One of the ‘not to be missed’ attractions is St Nicholas Abbey – one of only three Jacobean Manor Houses still standing in the Americas today.

The Caribbean love affair began when I first came to Barbados on my honeymoon many years ago. Little did I know that it would be the start of two lifelong love affairs – one with the man I married and one with the island paradise in the sun.
I could tell you about the virtues of being married to Arthur but I suspect you’d rather know what brings me back to Barbados year after year, and why it will always have a special place in my heart.
When I tell you I come from Canada (aka The Great White North) you’ll know the winters are seriously long and frigid. In -20 c. temperatures and deep snow, the thought of that wonderful Bajan sunshine in January gets me through the dark November days. By December, I’m mentally packing my bag with sunglasses, sandals and sarongs and can hardly wait to leave the down coat and polar fleece behind! I know that aches and pains will disappear and the sunshine (not to mention the odd tropical cocktail) will have a therapeutic effect as soon as I step off the plane.
Caribbean catamaran cruising doesn’t get any better than this. Indulge in pure luxury, on board SEADUCED 1, a 47ft luxury catamaran. We will have towels and snorkel equipment, you just bring yourself – ready to relax and have fun.
Prepare yourself for wonderful waters, perfect for swimming, fantastic food and a great time on board. Take a look at this video and then, if you need any more convincing, read what we have to say!
There are many beautiful gardens in Barbados but Huntes Gardens really is something special. Located in the lush hills of St Joseph, just 20-30 minutes drive from Holetown. On a gentle stroll around this enchanting garden, all five senses are indulged: touch, sound, smell, sight and taste!
When you enter the garden, stand still for a moment. Close your eyes momentarily and experience everything that surrounds you. Feel the Caribbean warmth. Maybe a gentle breeze is blowing softly against your skin. Bird song calls to your ear like a gentle bell among the classical music that wafts magically though the garden. Breathe in deeply through your nose whilst catching the merest scent of tropical blooms in the air. Now, pause a moment; and then open your eyes and absorb the botanical crescendo that’s being played out by nature’s sublime orchestra. The scent, the sounds, the feel; the beauty is right there for you to explore, the rich and colourful tapestry that is a ‘garden’.
These fabulous gardens in Barbados, have been created by the horticulturalist Anthony Hunte, whose ancestors arrived on the island in the 1600s in service. Anthony spent two years turning the large natural sink hole into the beautiful garden we see today, and he opened it to the public back in 1997.

Exclusive villa holidays in Barbados are so much more than the beach and the ocean. Of course the beach is wonderful and we all love to spend time there enjoying the crystal clear waters and all the activity – even if that is just snoozing in the shade, reading a book or an afternoon of people watching ! However, many of our guests like to wash off the sand and head for the shops for some serious retail therapy. Continue Reading
While enjoying your Barbados villa holiday and exploring the island you can’t fail to notice the arable land. The main crops grown in Barbados are sugarcane, vegetables and cotton. The vegetables commonly grown include sweet potatoes, eddoes and yams. These vegetables are usually sold locally by street vendors and not grown for export. Barbados cotton fields can be seen but are scarce in comparison to sugar and vegetables. You’ll see many sugarcane fields. Over 37% of the land in Barbados is arable land and sugarcane is the main crop. Sugarcane is the second largest industry in Barbados, with millions of dollars worth being exported each year.
