Rental Villa, close to Beach and Speightstown

Chindwin is a large Barbados family villa, nestling next to the natural forest on the very edge of Speightstown, on the North of the West Coast, in the parish of St Peter.  It’s less than a 10 minute walk from both the nearest beach and the town centre.  Professionally managed and maintained, Chindwin offers a very different experience from many holiday villas. Sleeping up to 10 adults, or 8 adults and up to 6 children, the house is very much part of a charming, local Bajan community which gives our guests an almost unique opportunity to sample and enjoy a very special and authentic perspective.

It is by no means unusual to witness families of the native Green Monkeys making their way across the garden to the town (or back again!) where they plunder the fruit from local gardens on a daily basis.  If you are lucky, in the evening, you may be treated to your own personal firework display as fireflies exhibit their luminescent talents at nightfall. The music of the night is courtesy of the crickets and tiny tree frogs.  The humming birds, butterflies, dragonflies and much more mean that nature is very much part of Chindwin’s charm.

This family villa has a large master bedroom with king-size bed and en-suite shower, (not to mention the balcony from which you can look across Barbados and see Speightstown and the open sea beyond).

There are 3 further bedrooms with queen-size double beds.

Bedroom 5 is large, and a wonderful children’s ‘dormitory’ which can sleep either 2 adults or up to 6 children. It has 2 full sized single beds, as shown in the picture on the web site. It also has a bunk bed, of which the bottom bunk is actually a double. There is also a metal framed ‘pop-up’ bed that can be used. So, it could sleep 6 children at the most (so long as two are OK in the double). It is also perfectly adequate as a bedroom for two adults

The master bedroom and the downstairs bedroom have their own ensuite bathroom.
There is a bathroom upstairs which is shared by the other 3 bedrooms.
All are shower only (no bath tub)

All bedrooms have air conditioning. The bathrooms each contain a shower unit, w/c and wash hand basin.  The large, flexible layout of the villa provides a perfect space for a 2, 3 or even 4 generation family holiday in beautiful Barbados!

On the ground floor, there is an ample living, dining and fully equipped kitchen area which, combined with a 40′ x 10′ rear covered patio and separate TV/Playroom, means that space is not an issue, even at maximum occupation. With free Wi-Fi, TV and DVD player, entertainment is readily available, and housekeeping is included weekly (stays of 7 nights or more) and more can be arranged to suit your individual needs throughout your stay, for a small additional charge.

The 24′ x 12′ x 7′ deep pool allows you to cool off at will, and we provide a table tennis table to give you a reason for doing so! We also provide 2 kayaks (with car fittings) along with various surf boards, boogie boards and snorkelling equipment for your use and enjoyment during your stay.

Chindwin provides an unusually rural location on the edge of Barbados’ third largest town, Speightstown; which remains relatively unspoilt by tourism and offers a wonderful insight into ‘old’ Barbados. However, it also offers an increasingly great variety of ‘eateries’ ranging from the ubiquitous white vans offering fantastic value ‘street food’ through to the Fisherman’s Pub (you just gotta meet ‘Junior’, the boss!), Island Plates and Little Bristol Beach Bar (where you just HAVE to try the Shark Wrap) to The Lobster Pot, Jumas and a little further north is the Yacht Club at Port St Charles Marina and the famous Fish Pot Restaurant.  There are many others, and every single one adds to the great Speightstown experience.

From Chindwin it is an easy walk to the beach, even with young children.  It takes ten minutes to walk if you go slowly with children – a shorter time for adults. You have to cross Highway 1, but the traffic is not heavy and locals are extremely good at stopping to allow you to cross.

Chindwin is close to the local bus route and the bus service is very inexpensive. Car hire is recommended, it really helps with shopping and it means you can explore the island at your leisure.  We can provide car hire quotes and make the arrangements for you.

We would love you to share the experience of being our guests at Chindwin, and look forward to welcoming you.  We have a large number of repeat guests who return year after year bringing family and friends to this unique Barbados villa.  Contact us to check availability and starting planning your holiday.

26/07/2019 Highly recommended
5.0
by Soula

This villa was everything we wished for and then some. It gave our 2 families, a large group of six adults and 5 children, lots of space with clean and comfortable living spaces inside and outside. There was plenty to do for the children with the table tennis, the swimming pool and the tiki toss. The nearby beach and all the amenities of Speightstown are an easy walk away. We all really loved the peaceful, location of the villa with the friendly neighbours. The villa manager, Azizi, was extremely helpful and welcomed us. Thank you for helping make our holiday something special to remember. Our experience was fantastic and we would highly recommend Chindwin.

10/07/2019 5 Stars!

Chindwin is a great villa. It is quite capable of managing a large group (such as ours). We enjoyed being situated within a local neighbourhood where we had many a friendly wave and greeting. For visitors that want to enjoy Barbados ‘like a local’ this place is perfect. There is lots to keep children occupied, they loved the pool which is well lit at night. Everything you need is within a ten minute walk – the beach, Speightstown, buses and shops. It takes just 2 or 3 miutes by car.
The garden is well kept and we saw humming birds and fireflies as well as monkeys! At night time we opened the doors and let the sound of the cicadas in (with the doors closed you don’t hear them).
Azizi the villa manager was great and helped us efficiently and with a smile. We definitely give Chindwin five stars. We would stay here again. Thank you.

We stayed at Chindwin as a large group, a family including a baby of 16 months. Speightstown was a perfect base for us. Hiring a car for some or all of the time is recommended. You can explore and see the other side of island. However, the local buses are good fun and inexpensive. We visited the fish fry at Oistins on the Saturday night and we enjoyed out favourite meal out – made all the better by the great atmosphere. We also would endorse the Fish Pot Restaurant, which is a short drive or a relatively long walk away. We all really loved the island and the friendly Bajan people. We had a fabulous time and are grateful for your help in organising everything for us.

11/05/2019 Fantastic stay

by Simon

In May we stayed at Chindwin. We were 3 adults and 2 children (4 and 2 years old). The villa and the swimming pool were fabulous. The weather was really hot so we very much appreciated the a/c in the villa. The villa is roomy and the swimming pool is large with lots of pool floats and toys. Chindwin is situated in a local neighbourhood and all of the neighbours were very friendly. The nearest beach is ten or fifteen minutes walk away. We enjoyed the beach at Speightstown best, it has a soft slope and no waves or current so it was ideal for the children. We spent lots of time on the beach, often we were the only people there.
Azizi the villa manager is lovely – on arrival she meets you and shows you around, including a short drive to help you know where everything is. This was very helpful.
Communication during the booking process is exceptional. We took advantage of the arrival shopping service, which made things really easy for us.
Once we used Rashida, the private villa chef. Her food was excellent, better than the restaurants we ate in! It was a real luxury, a bit expensive for us but worth it.
Chindwin is a superb place, great for children. We would recommend it.
Many thanks for our fantastic vacation, we all had a really good time.

06/04/2019 Great holiday for 3 Generation Family

by Jonathan Swift

We had a great time as a three generational party. House was great, pool and outside space ideal and the location excellent . It is slightly outside the main tourist drag but within ten minutes walk of good beaches, restaurants and public transport.. Any minor problems as can happen in a rental property were quickly fixed so that there was no hindrance to our stay. Our thanks to Azizi who promptly attended to anything we raised . If we return to Barbados as a large party, Chindwin will be the destination.

We were a group of 10 adults (4 couples and 2 singles) staying for 7 days – Chindwin was the perfect villa for our trip! The pool area is great and there are lots of interesting activities a short drive away.

The villa is large with a pool of excellent size. Perfect for big groups and families. There is a table tennis table on the balcony and the BBQ is great for evening meals. Chindwin is situated in the quieter part of Speightstown, but in easy reach of great beaches. Speightstown has an increasing number of excellent restaurants. Chindwin offers super accommodation at a fair price. it’s not in a busy touristy neighborhood Close by is Port St Charles, the yacht club offers a great lunch at reasonable cost, plus fantastic swimming and a pool for the children. Our family of 13 (including 5 children – the oldest being 6) enjoyed our 2 weeks very much.

Karen was really helpful and responsive to our questions, offering local tips and advice. Chindwin is great, located in a local neighbourhood that was welcoming, close to some superb beaches with excellent snorkeling. We had a fantastic family holiday and have made memories that will last forever. Azizi, the house manager, was really good and set us up well when we arrived. We all had a really fantastic stay. Thank you!

Chindwin is a fabulous villa – just a bit away from the main tourist areas, a great holiday home, really comfortable. Azizi the property manager is fantastic and Karen is really responsive. You wouldn’t regret staying here – our whole family just loved the amenities and the space. Thank you Karen, for finding us a great villa. It is awesome just as advertised. We had a really great stay. Azizi went the exrta mile to make our stay perfect.

02 19, 2018 Great local vibe!

We recently had a wonderful, mid-February trip to Chindwin! I love that the house is off-the-beaten track in an actual neighborhood, so it has a great local feel. The house is spacious and the pool in the back (where we spent most of our time) feels very secluded. It’s a short walk (or drive) to several different beaches and restaurants/bars. The weather every day was clear and sunny, with an occasional clearing shower. It was such a peaceful vacation in a beautiful setting. Next time I hope I will get to see the monkeys that play in the backyard around sunrise!

Excellent Value! We had a group of 9 friends, and there was more than enough room. The pool was clean, and the house perfectly comfy with nice cold air conditioning in the bedrooms for those that needed it. Theres a nice grill / bbq, a good portable cooler to take your drinks to the beach, two kayaks complete with roof racks and a ping pong table. There are quiet beaches and a choice of excellent restaurants or beach bars an easy 10 minute stroll from the house, through the neighborhood which is filled with friendly people. To everyones pleasure, the monkeys visited on our last morning. If you have not visited the island before, the locals (Bajans) are typically shy and reserved but, if you initiate conversation, they will light up and love a good chat. Chindwin is not in a resort. Its in the town of Speightstown, in a quiet area, surrounded by mostly retired locals. If you want a resort style holiday then don’t stay here!
If you want to feel de island vibes, and wake up to roosters / cockerels crowing…this place is for you 🙂

I loved this house. It had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The pool and outdoor area is great and where we most enjoyed hanging out. The location is great. There were not a lot of tourists which allowed us to really get a feel for the real Barbados. It is an easy walk to bars and restaurants. We saw monkeys which was delightful. At the beach we went snorkelling and got to see sea turtles. All and all a fantastic vacation and I can not wait to return!

12 22, 2017 Chindwin is just great!

by Vicki

Chindwin was ideal for our family of eight (three generations). The children adored the pool, we all loved the garden & patio. Chindwin is conveniently located really close to Speightstown, with lots of space to park and large enough for all of us to have some privacy as required. The villa is well equipped with extra touches like a make up mirror and lots of kitchen utensils and equipment. Having two fridge freezers made things so much easier – lots of space for drinks & our food. The beds were comfy and on New Years Eve we discovered we could see five separate displays of fireworks from the balcony upstairs! There is just so much to like about Chindwin we would highly recommended staying there. All in all we had a wonderful holiday in this great villa, made even better by the knowledge that Azizi was available at the end of a phone for anything we required.

03 25, 2017 Lovely spacious house with pool
5.0
by Courtenay Humphreys

We found Chindwin to be a spacious modern house with 5 bedrooms including one on the ground floor ideal for disabled guests who couldn’t manage stairs easily. It is set in lovely enclosed gardens in a quiet residential area but close to the main coast road and public transport. The swimming pool is fabulous and plenty big enough to have a proper swim in. Our party consisted of 2 grandparents plus single son , married daughter and husband plus 3 kids aged 4 – 11 and everyone enjoyed the holiday. The house is very well equipped with 2 larder fridge/freezers washing machine dishwasher full oven and hob plus microwave. Plenty of bathrooms and toilets for all of us. Very good cable TV set up with kids programs and games plus films etc. Handy for lots of local eateries and beaches. Worth hiring a car in our opinion but by no means essential. Azizi the local agent is lovely and so helpful only a phone call away if needed but not intrusive. Local roosters herald the arrival of dawn and the daily green monkey parade along the garden boundaries only to return at dusk. Some seem to prefer to stay at the resorts however as frequent visitors to Barbados this is a safe and potentially cheaper option for larger groups who want privacy and space and to eat what and when they want and experience the ‘real Barbados’. Thoroughly recommended.

02 08, 2017 What a delightful change from a resort rental
5.0
by Henrietta Onslow

We found exactly what we were looking for – a simple family holiday home. Although we were 8 adults, we could have easily accommodated a whole host of children as well since there is a very spacious kids room with 5 extremely comfortable beds/bunks. Perfect being in a neighbourhood (rather than a resort) and those neighbours were delightfully friendly. The monkey parade in the morning (through the garden) and the evening (through the tops of the palms) was wonderful – we had our own personal Green Heron by the pool every day – and hardly a mosquito to boot – certainly not the problem we expected. The house has everything you need (including a big washing machine and drying line in the garden) and and few frills which allows you torelax completely without fear of damaging anything – I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Perfect house for a holiday. Simple, with comfortable beds, good kitchen, ( dodgy dishwasher, but the agents are sorting it out!) 2 large fridges (brilliant!), cool breezy living area with plenty space, good shady patiio, pool, table tennis, canoes, (or kayaks?). Good location, short walk through Speightstown, friendly locals, good shops. A wonderful opportunity to experience unspoiled Barbados. We were well looked after by the agents. A first rate holiday!
