The gardens are well maintained (gardeners come on Saturday mornings – no noisy power tools!). There are many shady spots where you can relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. The gazebo provides shelter from the sun and the occasional rain and it’s a perfect place to relax or enjoy meals. There is a sink and a BBQ on the gazebo as well as a dining table and chairs.

This cute, little apartment was wonderfully peaceful, despite us having many visitors. The local bananaquits and hummingbirds kept me company while I read my book, and drank my tea, most mornings in the garden. Hercules the cat had a habit of turning up late for the evening BBQs, then got vocal about missing out on meaty morsels. We fed the tortoises mangoes from the mango tree, and we found many uses for the fresh limes from (you’ve guessed it) the lime tree. Another visitor was our fantastic host Karen, she was there when we needed her, but otherwise, left us to our own devices. The sun setting on the sea in the evenings was a sight to behold. We spent most evenings after dinner, relaxing in the gazebo, watching the fireflies. The pool was delightful, well maintained and no awful chlorine smell.
My 6ft partner struggled to stretch out in bed as it was a little short, however the AC in the apartment definitely saved us from some uncomfortably sticky nights. The kitchen has all the basics, and having the BBQ was a boon. We had a toaster, microwave, and the all-important blender for cocktails…what more could we want? There was a generous amount of fridge and freezer space, and that’s so important – ice melts in seconds.
Speightstown is nearby, but in the heat of the day it can feel a lot further away, so would suggest getting a hire car, if only for a few days for trips out. Overall, we really loved our stay in the Garden Suite, aptly named as the garden was a nature lover’s dream!
I have just returned from a holiday to Barbados with my friend. We stayed at The Garden Suite. Before we arrived, Karen answered all of my questions swiftly, by email or WhatsApp and she sent us lots of useful information that really helped us to organise our holiday. While we were there, she was available if we needed anything. The property is stunning, with a great pool, gorgeous gardens and superb views of the west coast. Located in a peaceful, residential neighbourhood, we felt quite safe and secure. The Garden Suite was comfortable and everything we needed was there.
We had a great time with the animals, Hercules the cat, the many tortoises and all of the pretty birds. We very much enjoyed our holiday in Barbados. Thank you Karen!
Our stay at the Garden Suite was superb. It is set in a lovely location with great views and a superb gazebo and bbq area which we spent many evenings enjoying. We stayed for 2 weeks, the first week we used the local buses and taxis which was great, but in the second week we were very pleased that we hired a car to explore the rest of the island. We would not hesitate to go back here!
If you’d like a relaxing and quiet time in Barbados this would suit you perfectly. The apartment is in lovely grounds on a cliff top close to Speightstown. Car hire is highly recommended. Karen is a faultless host along with her house keeper and care taker who are really friendly. Karen lives and works from the property but you get sole use of the facilities. Karen is available if ever help or advice is needed. The property is amid a large garden with tropical shrubs, flowers, trees and greenery and you can enjoy numerous birds visiting. There are tortoises and a chicken and Hercules the cat who seemed to like us and always came to say hello. People who love animals and wildlife would be very happy here. The monkeys make an appearance around 7am and sometimes later in the afternoon – if they come across the garden next door it does cause the next door dogs to bark. It’s nice to enjoy the sun in the early morning while having breakfast on the terrace. This was our 1st trip to Barbados and we hope to return, and would contact Karen again for somewhere to stay.
We loved our stay at The Garden Suite. Karen is a superb host – helpful and efficient but respects her guests privacy. It’s perfect for a couple who have a small child. The gazebo and pool and great barbecue are extra advantages. We would advise car hire for Barbados in general, we loved having the freedom to explore the island. The views from the property are spectacular. We had nature all around. We left extremely refreshed and relaxed. Thank you Karen.
The Tops….truly amazing. If you love wildlife and one of the best views over the sea you could get in Barbados.. then this is the place. You will find monkeys in the garden , bold tropical birds , and much much more. Gorgeous gardens to explore, lawns and tropical forest teaming with life….you will not be bored !!! Wonderful pool and patio area plus a great covered gazebo and BBQ area overlooking the tropical plants and monkey playground! all great value for money and I must say one of the best holiday experiences I have had.
Our second stay at this lovely, peaceful, hidden gem. We loved everything: the location, pool, BBQ, animals and plants. As before Karen provided us with everything we needed and was at hand to help us with our questions. A thoroughly relaxing time to be repeated and we’ll return as soon as possible.
I wanted a nice relaxing holiday and that’s exactly what I got. From the moment I arrived I was relaxed and feeling very chilled out.
Karen had supplied a few essentials i.e Tea,Milk,Bread,Coffee, water etc which was very much appreciated. The Garden Suite is exactly how you see it in the pictures, the room is very airy and has air conditioning and the bathroom is very spacious too. The kitchen area has everything you need and the added bonus of a washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board, you also have the full use off the gazebo where there is a freestanding gas BBQ, I cooked on it a few times. The pool and outside area is wonderful, i felt very much at home here. Their are some nice people in this world and Karen is one of them. Thanks for the magical time I had, it has been a highlight of my life. I wanted too kick back and relax and I did, but their is lots too do in Barbados and Karen is more than willing too help make your holiday as special as possible.
It’s always a pleasure to stay in the Garden Suite (my 3rd stay). It’s as if you are touching nature with so much wildlife and the beautiful gardens sounding surrounding you. One special moment for me is when I get up in the morning; the first thing I like to do is take a look out to sea, and check if any new vessels are at anchor just outside of Port St Charles marina. I have not been disappointed with some incredible craft. I noted the recently launched super yacht Cloudbreak which is just over 72m overall in length and weighing in at an impressive 2200 tonnes she has a military style exterior with a heli deck to the aft . I couldn’t resist taking a couple of pics .
We cannot praise Karen or her property too highly. Really friendly communication during the booking process and a very warm welcome when we arrived. Karen is not intrusive at all and is very helpful if required. This is one of those places that you don’t really want to review as you want to keep it all to yourself! Ideally you benefit from a car when staying here as the hill up from Port Ferdinand is steep, unless you want the exercise! It is in a quiet residential area, and you get a good breeze. Usually mosquitoes drive me mad but I can’t remember getting one bite, so we think the breeze keeps the mozzies away. Hercules the cat is very friendly. Karen has 2 dogs and if anyone is put off by this, don’t be. They are not noisy at all and you hardly see them anyway. Isabelle the chicken struts about from time to time. There is a large table with plenty of chairs and two sun beds right next to the pool. There are lights in the trees so you can easily sit and read a book outside at night, with a drink from the fridge right next to your room. A BBQ is available but the only “cooking” we did was to make toast for breakfast and the occasional salad, we dined out most of the time. There is ample space to park a rental car. The pool and terrace are kept immaculately clean. We enjoyed our stay so much we are returning for a longer one next year. In summary, we love this place and can’t recommend it highly enough. ”
I would just like to say a very big thankyou to Karen for making our Xmas stay in the Garden Suite so brilliant. The view from the proerty is outstanding and we absolutely loved sitting by the pool each evening watching the sunset directly in front of us. We stayed all the way through the Xmas period and it was probably the most relaxed Xmas ever. We were all very sad to be leaving on New Years Eve and would have loved to have stayed longer. I would recommend Karen and her beautiful apartment to anybody as she made us feel exceptionally welcome and her knowledge of the area is great and nothing was too much trouble, also it was exceedingly good value for the money and I would challenge anyone to find accommodation which is as good as this for the price. Happy 2016 Karen , Many Many Thanks from the Dabbers
Karen I don’t know how to thank you enough for my stay, you really do live in paradise, to wake up each morning and step out of the door with the sun shinning, a gentle breeze blowing and then having the choice of using the pool or being able to wander down to the beach within 10 minutes for a morning swim followed by breakfast in Speightstown was an absolute dream. It was also a privelege to wake up each morning to the view across the sea and then each night being able to watch the sun set on the horizon. I felt that given the price I paid, it was absolutly marvellous !!
I very much appreciated your help and hospitality.
Very best wishes for 2016
